Make Your New Years Resolution in Eastern Idaho
New Years Torchlight is a beacon of tradition at Grand Targhee
No singing of Auld Lang Syne is complete in Wydaho without the annual Torchlight Parade and Fireworks celebration at Grand Targhee Resort. Add this tradition to your family’s plans this year. There are two torchlight parades, the adult parade follows the kids’ parade. Check-in for kids is at 4:25 p.m. and 5:25 p.m. for the adult run. Sign-up at the Activity Center starts December 16th. Don’t hesitate, there are limited spots available for this festive ski party. Fireworks follow the Torchlight Parade.
Before the sun sets, get up to the hill early and come ready to cheer on athletes or take part in Targhee’s Annual NYE Rail Jam. Every year this throw-down celebrates the past, present and sets the intention high for the rest of the ski season. Late-night revelers who still have energy to burn after a day on piste can head to the Trap Bar and Grill for an evening of psychedelic electronica with DJ Bernard Foyer.
Take advantage of the entire Yellowstone to Teton Territory region’s traditions as you welcome 2024. Idaho’s Largest New Year’s Celebration, COUNTDOWN 2025 takes over the Grand Teton Mall at the corner of 25th and 17th in Idaho Falls. A wonder to experience, the “COUNTDOWN” to midnight may be the largest celebration in Idaho with non-stop festivities, dazzling lights, and electrifying music that will have you dancing into the early hours.
Does that sound too much? Here are some other annual traditions to look to the future: Add BJ’s Bayou’s annual Grand Bayou Buffet with music from Idaho Muscle to your bucket list. Not far from either area ski resort, Kelly Canyon or Grand Targhee, a quick drive to Roberts will reveal one of Idaho’s hidden gems (link to second article, Cowboy Christmas). The Cajun Roadhouse has been a staple for decades and every 31st, they are the cornerstone for celebrating without the crowds.
Not up for driving and want an excuse to don some attire instead of ski gear? Downtown Idaho Falls’ historic district makes for an easy pub crawl with each haunt offering a different taste of entertainment. Downtown speakeasy, XVIII’s craft cocktail and exclusive library selection is sure to satiate friends out for one drink or parties ringing in midnight. Bardoza’s Taphouse showcases thirty beers on tap and stand-bys, The Celt and Snake Bite are always guaranteed to be go-to nights out. It’s always a good idea to call individual venues to inquire about New Year’s door fees and dinner packages.
Want something all-inclusive for the evening? Look no further than the Lakeside Lodge in Island Park. Dinner, fireworks and live music without having to leave the building? Yes, please! After a day of snowmobiling and winter trekking, there’s nothing better than knowing all your needs are handled for the evening, and you just need your room key.
Other easy evenings out in Teton Valley include local alehouse Guidepost’s annual New Year’s masquerade. The music roadhouse, Knotty Pine will host an end-of-year jam fest with North Fork Crossing and Strumbucket. The Tetonia Club’s fire pits will be lit as Vamoose takes skiers into January.
