Saddle Up and Send It for The Grand Showdown

Skijoring is where the West meets Alpine culture.
Skiers race for their best time over an obstacle-filled course as they are pulled by cowboys and cowgirls hoping their horse pulls the athletes into first place.Â
The esoteric and fast-paced sport is seeing a revival since its Olympic debut in the 1928 Olympics in St. Moritz as a demonstration sport. These days skijoring has a professional circuit and is picking up more events throughout the Rockies. An iconic representation of mountain living, both ranching and skiing come together in the sport for an exhilarating day at the races.Â
Don’t miss this year’s most wild winter event and Teton Valley’s best winter tailgate party. The entire family will be in awe as skiers, snowboarders and riders compete for the Showdown’s $30,000 purse at The Grand Showdown in Driggs, February 21-22.Â

Teton Valley Skijoring is an official affiliate stop on the PROSkijor Frontier Tour — a national series showcasing the top skijoring athletes and events across the West with competitors racing to complete the course at the Teton Valley Fairgrounds.Â
Check out the full schedule of this Western spectacle at tetonskijor.org/schedule→ to make sure you catch riders and skiers off the course too—such as The Tetonia Club for Ditch Cat the night before The Grand Showdown. Opening Ceremonies with singer Karee Miller before races start at 10am. After the heats wrap, competitors and fans can head to Guidepost in Victor to enjoy an evening of Western rock with Jared Rogerson & the Rodeo Wreck. Sunday is the final day of the competition.
