Summer plans wait for no one

Summer memories begin with live music in the Yellowstone Teton Territory and 2025 is setting the stage for many memories

With Brad Paisley’s Truck Still Works World Tour later this month (May 23) , Jon Pardi in June and Lyle Lovett and his Large Band in July at the Mountain America Center. Walker Hayes brings his breakout hit and country anthem “Fancy Like” to BYU-Idaho’s Center Stage on May 23. Don’t sit on tickets, these summer shows are sure to sell out—and are the perfect inspiration to plan a trip to Eastern Idaho.

Come for the music, stay through Memorial Day weekend and take part in fishing season’s opening tradition. According to legend, the Fisherman’s Breakfast started to introduce St. Anthony as more than a supply outpost before heading out on the Henry’s Fork for world class fishing. Motorists traveling up old U.S. Highway 191 through St. Anthony were invited to have free coffee and donuts at any of the local cafes. The date was June 3, the day before the opening of fishing season in 1955. These days, the breakfast takes place over the holiday weekend.

Add on a side trip to one of the area’s waterfalls, or visit them all: Mesa Falls’ 114-foot tall and 200-foot wide force of water between Ashton and Island Park, nearby Sheep Falls and Fall Creek Falls in Swan Valley. Late spring and early summer, run-off will be at its peak and the best time to witness Mother Nature at full throttle.

And before you head out, make sure to make a stop at the Russ Freeman Park in Idaho Falls to post one thousand American flags for the Idaho Falls annual Field of Honor® flag display which has happened every Memorial Day weekend since 2012. The event will be hosted again by the Idaho Falls Exchange Club. This sea of red, white and blue waving in the breeze will fly as a tribute dedicated to benefit local Veterans Groups, local Child Abuse Prevention Agencies, and Bonneville-Idaho Falls Crime Stoppers.
