Fall Art Exhibitions at the Art Museum of Eastern Idaho
It’s a busy month at the museum. On October 29, from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m., the museum explores the relationships between humans and animals, in Jessie Wilber’s exhibition, “Shared Ground: Art and Animals.” One of Montana’s most notable artists during the better part of the 20th century. Wilbur was a painter, collage artist, and printmaker.
Drawn from a traveling exhibition organized through the Montana Art Gallery Directors Association (MAGDA), the exhibition centers on Wilber’s prints, including relief prints, lithographs, and screen prints, which reflect a deep engagement with observation, craftsmanship, and the natural world.
The exhibition will be presented alongside a selection of recent acquisitions from TAM’s permanent collection, “Animalia” as well as work by a contemporary regional artist, “creating a dialogue between historical and contemporary approaches to animal imagery,” said the museum.
Wilber received her master’s degree from Colorado State College of Education in 1938, and then taught at Montana State University from 1941 to 1973. A very active in the Montana art scene, she was a founding member of the Montana Institute of the Arts. Recognized across the country for her painting and printmaking (lithography, woodblock, and silkscreen), her work remains a contemporary perspective on the West since her passing in 1989.
The exhibition kicks off with a free opening reception on October 29, from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m.
